I hate you 😦
Do you get Snow Rage? Not even sure that is a thing, but I am certainly feeling it. Shoveling the driveway is fast becoming my most hated household task, even worse than vacuuming and cleaning the hair out of my bathroom sink plug. (Seriously, that was nasty. What the heck were the previous tenants doing? Stuffing Furbies down the drain?)
I think it’s because the work feels Sisyphean. I shovel. It snows. I shovel again. It snows. I shovel again and it starts snowing before I finish. It’s never ending, and it doesn’t help that the snowplow has decided to pile up all the snow from the street at the end of my driveway, in this huge icy rock mound thing that is slowly consuming the rest of my driveway in a ravenous bid to ensure that I never leave the house again (wait, maybe that’s not so bad). Every morning is a study in trigonometry and geometry as I endeavor to swing my car into the one angle that doesn’t back me into this snow monster and lets me into the street. I don’t even have space to put my garage cans anymore—this week I just took the bags out and piled them by the mailbox.
Yesterday, in a fit of pique, I grabbed my shovel and hacked at the snow mound like I was rather clumsy and inept knight trying to slay a dragon. I managed to chip off a sad, sad chunk that was promptly replaced by the additional 4 inches we got last night.
I think it laughed at me.
I hate doing chores. You know, vacuum, mopping, the whole bit. Laundry only squeaks by because the novelty of having my own washer and dryer after years of living without hasn’t quite lost the shiny yet.
But I like making lists. And I LOVE crossing stuff off of said lists.
Therefore I decided to make my own dry erase chore board. TADA!
Well, kinda. Dry erase boards, at least the nicer looking ones and not the cheapie dollar dorm/locker ones you find, are sort of expensive. So what do you do? Buy a picture frame instead! The glass writes on and wipes off just the same as a dry erase board. All I did was put a blank piece of paper in the back. Someday I might paint the frame a more interesting color or do a pretty picture in the back, but for now this is more a Repurpose than a straight DIY.
I’ve been using this for a couple months now and…well, I still hate chores. But I have been doing them more on the regular, so I guess that’s an improvement…
…so glad that that’s done.
(Or at least that was the cheesy name they were giving it on the local news)
I woke up to this last Friday:
Great. I moved to a duplex last fall and this is the first time I’ve had a driveway of my own. I was hoping to get through this winter without having to shovel, but alas…
Even the kitty was a little freaked. I opened the door in case he wanted to come investigate (the snow was high enough that it formed a kind of pen) but he just eyed me from the garage going, “I am so glad I don’t have opposable thumbs. I‘m staying inside where it is warm.”
