Repurpose/DIY: Chore Board

I hate doing chores. You know, vacuum, mopping, the whole bit. Laundry only squeaks by because the novelty of having my own washer and dryer after years of living without hasn’t quite lost the shiny yet.

But I like making lists. And I LOVE crossing stuff off of said lists.

Therefore I decided to make my own dry erase chore board. TADA!

Well, kinda. Dry erase boards, at least the nicer looking ones and not the cheapie dollar dorm/locker ones you find, are sort of expensive. So what do you do? Buy a picture frame instead! The glass writes on and wipes off just the same as a dry erase board. All I did was put a blank piece of paper in the back. Someday I might paint the frame a more interesting color or do a pretty picture in the back, but for now this is more a Repurpose than a straight DIY.

I’ve been using this for a couple months now and…well, I still hate chores. But I have been doing them more on the regular, so I guess that’s an improvement…

Things That Made Me Happy This Week

On occasion I go through phases when my perk needs some work, my chin is not up but down, and the cheer is just not there. When that happens, the little things mean a lot. Here are some things that made me happy this week:

Three day weekend!: well, ok, this was more like last week. But still! I got so much done, even if the kitty was naughty.

Chemical Beakers in the Kitchen: As the daughter of a chemist, this is actually a pretty cool idea. As more décor though–I have advanced enough in my cooking that I usually don’t need to measure anything anymore, but these would be geeky-cute.

Rooster Sauce!: I never really thought about where Siracha comes from and how it ended up on the shelves–its pretty much is just that magical red sauce that makes almost everything better. This article is interesting to learn about its history.

Moved offices at work: This was sort of good and bad. I stayed on the same floor, but still moved far enough that I had to pack everything up. So that was annoying. On the other hand, it gave me the chance to clean a bunch of junk out, and my new office is slightly bigger. Also, some of my friends who previously worked on a different floor are coming down to mine, so that’s good.

Cat Fashion – For their April Fool’s Joke, Eide, an online fashion mag, devoted an entire issue to cats, interviews and famous kitty “where are they now?” and all. Cats of the world of course wonder why they would do it as only a joke. Their greatness deserves to be publicized at every turn.

Apartment Therapy Totoro Roundup – I love Miyazaki anything but Totoro has a special place. I already have a small Totoro plushie, but I would LOVE a Totoro bed. Or Totoro slumber poufs!

Cookie in a Cup – I used to drive justtwomorethings nuts when I went through a craze of making brownie-in-a-cup almost every night because I was too lazy to bake a whole pan. I still do make them from time to time, but would really like to give this recipe a try.

Kitchen Library Island I want one! Being as I am still somewhat resistant to the e-reader revolution, I never seem to have enough space for books, so this would be fantastic.

Chinese New Year was last Sunday: I LOVE Chinese New Year, even if this year it was spent sitting at home and eating Chinese takeout (I almost never eat out, so it was special). It gives me something to look forward to after the whole Xmas and Jan. 1 fuss is over, and do-over on all those new year’s resolutions I failed at in the month prior.

I got RED on sale: I saw this movie on my 24th birthday–basically old people kicking ass. It isn’t the best, most dramatic or most thought-provoking movie I’m ever seen, but it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It’s worth it for John Malkovich’s pig and Bruce Willis breaking into the CIA to beat up Karl Urban alone. For $7.99 (on Blu-Ray!) there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half.

Free Food at work: A Fun Team event. Yes, we actually have team in charge of Fun, that tries desperately to inject a bit of whimsy into our corporate atmosphere. However, as they have no budget, mostly this ends up as food potlucks. Thursday was the Chili Cook off. Well, free food, can’t argue with that.

Mango finally used the chair: For something other than scratching at least. I rescued this chair from the curb a couple of weeks ago–it’s a perfectly good piece of furniture and I had dreams of Mango curling up in it while I hauled it off.  All the kitty did was sniff and scratch but he finally flopped in it this week.
